The Norther Offshore Wind Farm, located just 23 kilometres off the coast of Zeebrugge
in the North Sea, is a key player in Belgium’s renewable energy sector.

Numbers
Spanning 44 square kilometres, it features 44 Vestas V164 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8.4 MW. With a total installed capacity of 370 MW, the offshore wind farm generates enough electricity to power approximately 400,000 households annually.

Milestones
The project was initiated in 2009 with the granting of the concession, and construction began in early 2017. By mid-2019, the wind farm was fully operational. It is scheduled to run until April 2043, playing a crucial role in Belgium’s transition to sustainable energy.

Domain Concession
The Norther concession is part of the nine concessions designated within Belgium’s Exclusive Economic Zone with a total capacity of 2200MW.
All wind farms in this zone are all fully operational since end of 2020. For more information about other wind farms in the Belgian concession area, please visit the website of the Belgian Offshore Platform (BOP): www.belgianoffshoreplatform.be
