Type of turbine: Vestas Turbine V164

About the turbines

The Norther offshore wind farm uses 44 Vestas V164 turbines, built by the Danish company Vestas.

Each turbine can produce up to 8.4 megawatts (MW) of electricity, enough to power thousands of homes.

Key facts about the V164

  • Height: About 189 meters from sea level to the tip of the blade.
  • Rotor diameter: 164 meters, giving the turbine a huge swept area to capture wind energy.
  • Blades: Each blade is around 80 meters long.
  • Nacelle weight: The nacelle (the housing on top of the tower) weighs about 350 tons.
  • Total capacity: Together, the 44 turbines generate 370 MW, making Norther one of Belgium’s largest offshore wind farms.

These turbines are among the most advanced in the world, designed for high efficiency and reliability in harsh offshore conditions.
